We have the Bara Barn Shawls
"To carry a baby in a shawl is a very old tradition. It is a wonderful way to ”wear” a baby, you get to have your baby really close! It so wonderful that we decided to start designing our own shawls. We call them Bära-barn-shawls. ”Bära barn” is Swedish for baby carrying.
There are many advantages to carrying a child in a shawl. For example, you are able to carry your child until it’s at least 3 years old. You can carry your child close to you when you are in crowded places, which makes the child feel more secure and involved. Read about other additional advantages in the following web pages.
The Bära-barn-shawls are woven in 100% cotton. The cotton we use has been tested regarding harmful substances according to Oeko-Tex standard 100, which fulfils the human-ecological requirements for products with direct contact to the skin. They are easy to care for and can be washed at 40 degrees and can be tumble-dried or hang-dried.
There are many ways to tie a carry-shawl, but we only use one way; the easiest one! Because many of us were not brought up with this tradition, some practice might be needed, but actually it is no more difficult tying the shawl than it is tying a shoelace.
We hope that you will enjoy your Bära-barn-shawl! It will help you to have your child close to you, as often and as long as you want."

Children who are carried are more content and
happy. The closeness and the rhythm of your
movements help your child to develop. This is
timeless wisdom: to carry your child in a
Bära-barn-shawl is to go back to the original
timeless design.
The reason why children like to be carried is due
to the peaceful effect of the hormone, oxytocin,
which is released through movement. Premature
babies that are carried a lot gain weight three
times faster than those that lie in an incubator.
Naturally, all children feel better from the
intimacy of being carried!
The Bära-barn-shawl is suitable for newborns and
children up to approximately the age of three,
which makes the shawl both unique and economical.
Smaller babies lie down in the shawl in a
comfortable position similar to the fetal
position. This makes it easier for the child to
find its hands, which is good for the
child’s development. The Bära-barn-shawl
surrounds your child perfectly and provides the
security a child needs. The pressure of the cloth
against the body and the sound of your heart
beating remind the child of its life as a fetus.
Your child will feel it is being looked after
even if you are busy with something else. The
child’s sensitive back is not strained. It
can continue being bent exactly like it was in
the mother’s tummy and the back can
straighten out in its own time.
In a Bära-barn-shawl you can breastfeed
discreetly.
The older child sits comfortably on your hip or
tummy-to-tummy with the shawl supporting the
bottom and the entire back. There is no strain on
you, which will make you able to carry your child
more often. Just imagine; you can even carry an
older child without straining your body. With two
shawls you can even carry twins.
Parents with adopted children appreciate the
shawl very much as it helps them to develop a
closer contact to their child.
Simply to tie and easy to
use
Any
parent will confirm that they need and want to
carry their children for as long as possible,
even after their children have learned to walk:
when out walking, running errands, picking up or
dropping off an older sibling, while at home, or
among people who are new to the child, for
example, at a party.
Since the Bära-barn-shawl is so comfortable and
easy to put on and take off you will really use
it, for shorter and longer periods of time. You
can wear it as an ordinary shawl or take it with
you, tied beforehand.
Some parents think they can’t carry their
child because of “aching or strained
backs,” but since the Bära-barn-shawl is so
comfortable and easy to use, it’s the
perfect solution. Of course, a small child will
be carried more often than an older child, but
when you have older children, the shawl makes it
easier for you to carry them as long as you can
still lift them up.

you will learn how to tie the bära-barn-shawl,
but as we already mentioned, it is as easy to
tie the shawl as it is to tie your shoelaces.
